Modern History of the Church
At the end of the 60s of the 20th century the overhaul of the entire building was initiated. It was not finished until 1990. The back part of the church was sensitively adapted for use as a chapel.
Under the leadership of Professor Vladislav Mirvald, a group of his colleagues restored successfully the temple altar, a unique work of art of the altar architecture.
On 23rd June 1990 Litoměrice Bishop Mons. ThDr. Josef Koukl sanctified a new altar in the presbytery which together with ambo is used for liturgy adapted by the 2nd Vatican Council. The sanctification was attended also by Mons. Milan Bezděk, who was the spirit of the overhaul of the entire temple of St Nicolas.
